When Right Doesn’t Seem to be working – pt1

When Right Doesn't Seem to be working - pt1

Philippians 1:12-14

“12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, “

Here’s a sobering but solid truth:

There are time when it will seem like doing right is not working.  I mean, you will do your best to do the right things but it will seem like nothing is changing – at all.

In these seasons we can feel that our situations are hopeless and that we’re wasting our time. Frustration and weariness hangs on us like a wet blanket. We have thoughts like “throw in the towel and give up because nothing is going to change”.

This can be very confusing, because doing the right thing is supposed to bring the right results .. Right? Especially when we’re doing what the word says, when we’re doing what  the Lord has instructed us.. Right?

This has to be the way Paul felt. Knowing he had heard form God through a vision to go to Macedonia to share the gospel. The results.. A prison sentence! What do you do when you’re doing the right things yet things aren’t changing? How do you NOT throw in the towel? How do you keep your zeal and your focus?

Stay True while Not Knowing

Paul didn’t know what God was doing.. At first. “these things have rather[actually] turned out for the furtherance of the gospel.” Initially, it didn’t seem that way.

There will be times in your life when you will not know what God is doing! Be careful of those who always seem to know what God is doing. The true is that there are times when we will be confused and disoriented by God. Which tells us that following God will require us to divorce ourselves from the need to know everything.

1 Corinthians 5:7 “We walk by faith and not by sight”.

Principle: “faith is being able to endure your season without a calendar in your hand!”

The question is whether we can continue to walk with God when we have no idea what He is doing in our lives.

Abraham had no idea what God was doing when God instructed him to take his son Isaac to a mountain to be sacrificed.  Yet Abraham kept walking, every step towards Mount Moriah was a step of faith.

Things look like there are not working out? Doing the right thing seems to not be working? Don’t have a clue as to what God is doing in this season of your life? Awesome!

Keep walking it out and you’re going to see later that God was working all along. Not for your comfort but for His cause. Which is why we exist.. For His cause and not our comfort.

Rest in the truth that God is working.. And He’s work for your good. Even if doing right doesn’t seem to be working.
